I never thought I’d be writing an obituary for a Hollywood actor of all things, but I genuinely am disappointed at Heath Ledger’s sudden death. I haven’t watched many of his movies and I don’t know the guy, but I was so hyped to see his performance in The Dark Knight (the new Batman movie). He plays the Joker, and it was said that his vision of the Joker as a true psychopath in a dark mental whirlpool of insanity would be realized in this movie. In other words, the best Joker ever.
Here’s a tribute – the preview for The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger is almost unrecognizable. Apparently he locked himself up for one month in an apartment alone to get into and rehearse the Joker’s psychology. and part of the film is also done in Hong Kong, which is cool, but made all the sadder now that Heath, who was reputed to be the one to bring to life the most evil Joker ever, is now dead.
Two things are also disappointing. The fact of Hollyweird and the fact that he leaves a two-year old daughter behind. It sucks knowing that the little one will grow up without ever knowing or spending time with her father, who was, in all honesty, one of the better actors in Hollyweird. I didn’t watch Brokeback Mountain, but I saw a bit of A Knight’s Tale, and that movie was pretty cool, and he acted quite well. Yet the entertainment cartel spends so much money luring young people to its doors promising fulfillment. The one most important fulfillment they never get at this place, however, the highest high – is spiritual realization, something no director can provide. And now his daughter will grow up without his most important presence.
That and the fact that he’s Aussie (Perth-born) is also sad.
We’ll miss you mate.
