One of the recent comments suggested that there was no fire in Generation Y. Before I give the impression that I think that things are getting better by the generation, I say it’s not. I don’t wish to idolize the materialistic, blatantly selfish, shallow, self-ignorant, unspiritual, ungrateful, foul-mouthed, ignoble trainwreck that people often accuse Generation Y of – because it’s true. Just last Sunday on my way to a take-out for dinner a couple of drunk Australians shouted racist slurs at me. On Friday when my friends and I went out for drinks a group of drunken blokes screamed ‘FUCKIN’ ASIAN CUNTS!!!’ at us. It’s quite commonplace here in Brisbane – insults and anger flying in all directions, not just at Asians. I have never seen Western dudes treating Asian guys or girls like this in Hong Kong, I was appalled at how they let things pass by down at the city over here.
I am of Generation Y and I can see something is wrong; doesn’t take rocket science or Holy Scripture to see that.

I had no idea there was such blatant racism in Australia. The Aussies I’ve met here, and in Europe, seem a good-natured bunch. Shows you how much I know.
There are days (most days) when I’m embarrassed for the human race…
Trust me, get your certain man drunk – and you will hear much slurs – racial slurs you never thought possible of the guy. Quite probable that he entertained those thoughts when he was sober anyhow.
Perhaps HK still suffers from years of colonialism and being a “slave dog” to Britain.
I don’t think Hong Kong has suffered from being a ’slave dog’. I don’t condone colonialism, but apart from some hiccups, Hong Kong has turned out fine. It’s been a dilemma – Hong Kong now is a mighty capitalist city, and is it thanks to Britain, or thanks to our own efforts, or thanks to both? Either way, we have some things to smack the Poms about, but we have some things to congratulate them about too.
Either way, I don’t think HK was ever a ’slave dog’ as much as South America was to the Spaniards or Tibet is to the Chinese. I think you’re looking at it way too pessimistically.
